The mathematics of EGP can be reduced to the principles of general relativity and quantum mechanics under constraint. So, using the terminology of 21st century physics, it can be said that interactions between dark matter create dark energy. This causes spatial expansion. If there is sufficient mass conversion, that expansion can inflate faster than the speed of light. The Big Bang. And, when localized, this process of inflation creates a wormhole through space/time.
Dark matter floats around galaxies like dust clouds, only significantly more massive and much less likely to interact with anything. As a result it is far more uniformly distributed, making it convenient for SLT sailing. But due to the gravitational waves from the galactic core or the presence of very massive bodies, it can clump or thin out. There are places where black holes can create storm like features.
Dark matter is roughly equivalent to the weather, currents and wind conditions associated with nautical travel in the age of sails which determine the optimal speed and direction of movement. Meanwhile, using the same analogy, the normal (interactive/visible) matter in the galaxy forms the sandbars, reefs and shoals which pose significant problems for navigation due to the fact that they can beach a ship or tear the hull apart.
However, unlike weather and tides which shift frequently on the sea and the direction of pressure which causes the need to tack, the trade winds of dark matter remain relatively fixed and stable from day to day and starships can move in any direction through the dark matter. However, similar to sailing ships, they require an orientation adjustment in the direction of the sails relative to the hull to change directions quickly and ships ‘upwind’ reduce the efficiency of any pursuing ship’s speed that is too close to it.
